A letter from Aaron

It's overwhelming to think about all the things God has accomplished since we started on January 1, 2012. We launched with a vision to create a "church for the unchurched" and in many ways that dream has become a reality. Take one look at the crowd on Sunday morning and you'll see a diverse, multi-generational congregation engaged in a worship service that is authentic, relevant, and Christ-centered. Look closer and you'll see kids, teenagers, and college students growing spiritually through thriving age-level ministries, volunteers using their gifts to serve others, and friends doing life together as a result of their participation in Community Groups. God has also used Coastal to start new community ministries, lead disaster relief efforts, and send missionaries around the globe. We've gathered with other churches for United Worship and even started an island-wide Servolution!

Although I'm extremely grateful for God's blessing in and through Coastal, I'm convinced our task is only beginning. The large percentage of unchurched people on the island and in Galveston County is heartbreaking. We cannot rest on yesterday's success. It's time to begin a new and exciting chapter in Coastal's story. It's time to take our vision and Kingdom impact to the next level. It's time to go BEYOND.

The BEYOND INITIATIVE is a 36-month, church-wide emphasis designed to help us take a big, collective step forward. As you read over the following information, you'll learn more about this God-sized vision and discover practical ways you can be part of it.

How Do I Decide How Much to Give?

The BEYOND Initiative is our next step in helping people know and follow Jesus. It will deepen our faith and trust in God while broadening the impact of our ministry. Our hope is that God will meet you in a personal and life-changing way as you consider your commitment to BEYOND. We believe it will allow God to do something new in your life as He does something new through you in the lives of others.

Your financial commitment to BEYOND should be based on meaningful spiritual reflection on how God may be leading you to invest in the mission of the church. In this season, take the time to ...

  1. PRAY Seek God's guidance, asking Him to renew your heart for the church and for those far from God, and to lead your decisions.

  2. LISTEN As you read through the materials and listen to the messages, which aspects of BEYOND resonate with your spirit? What do you sense God saying to you about your walk with Him, about stewardship, and about your relationship to your church?

  3. DISCUSS Talk to your spouse and/or other family members to see how God may be confirming your sense of direction. Talk to trusted friends and leaders at Coastal Community Church to learn from their stewardship journeys.

  4. CONSIDER What is your capability and potential for giving? Think beyond your current income. Do you have non-income assets that could be gifted? Is there a sacrifice the Lord might be calling you to make?

  5. COMMIT Develop a personal giving plan - weekly, monthly, annually, one-time, or a combination of these - for the three years that will enable you to reach your giving goals.

CURRENTLY SERVING IN MEXICO

Our time at Coastal has been the biggest and most significant time of spiritual growth we've had. We both arrived in very different places in our walk with God, and Coastal was there to help us discover who God is and

what His plans for this world are. We're so thankful that instead of telling us what to believe, Coastal walked along with us and let us dig deeper together, and discover things for ourselves, all while being there as a community and as a resource. We have made lifelong friends and taken eternally-significant steps here at Coastal and will never forget the impact being a part of this community has been

My experience at CoastaI has been transformational. I wanted to build a relationship with God and KNEW that I needed Him, but I didn't even know where to begin. There was no pressure with Coastal. It felt like home from the very first service I attended. It was the people, not only who work there, but who worship alongside me, who keep me strong in my faith - stronger than I have ever been.

When we moved to the Island, we would have called ourselves Christian, but how we did life, other than Sundays, would not have demonstrated this. Being part of Coastal has, over time, encouraged us to follow Christ. This is a daily work-in-progress for us, but we now have a strong church family and an amazing community group.

We have been a part of Coastal from the beginning. We are blessed to have a leadership team that truly has a heart for the Lord. We have seen our faith grow by becoming more involved in various serving opportunities. We are encouraged as we see God's hand at work, and we expectantly look forward to greater things God will do in this church in the future.

My sons and I made a leap of faith and attended a morning service. Immediately, my son stated, "Mom, we are returning next week!" Coastal provided a warm, diverse, family-oriented spiritual atmosphere. The multiple classes for children and adults, groups and summer community service events promote security in ensuring my family will receive God's biblical words.

BEYOND FAQ.jpg

WHAT ARE WE DOING? >

BEYOND is about our next steps as a church. We believe that God is calling us to start an epidemic of healthy churches on the Island, in Galveston County, and BEYOND. Our goals are: 1) to remodel the old Buick Building at 1309 23rd Street; and 2) for 80% of our congregation to be involved both in Community Groups and serving as volunteers inside or outside the walls of Coastal.

WHY ARE WE DOING IT? >

Although Coastal has been extraordinarily blessed over the past six years, we recognize that there are still massive spiritual needs on the Island and in our surrounding communities. We want to help people know and follow Jesus, and we believe this initiative will expand our capacity to make a lasting impact for Christ.

WHY ARE WE DOING IT NOW? >

For the past five years, we have been renting facilities from Galveston Independent School District. A permanent location will give us stability, ministry flexibility, and greater visibility. We will also be able to build equity instead of paying rent.

WHY IS JOINING A COMMUNITY GROUP SO IMPORTANT? >

One of our values at Coastal is "No one is an island." We believe life happens better together, not apart. Community Groups are a great place to connect, grow, and serve with others.

WHY IS SERVING IMPORTANT TO ME? >

The Bible tells us that Jesus came not to be served, but to serve and give His life as a ransom for many (Mark 10:45). As Christ Followers, we want to follow His example. We also recognize that serving is integral to our own spiritual health.

WHAT DOES SERVING INSIDE THE CHURCH MEAN? >

Serving inside the church means volunteering in any capacity within the church: Set-up and Tear-down, Worship Team, First Impressions (hospitality, greeters, ushers, etc.), Prayer Team, Coastal Kids, Middle and High School Ministries, Community Groups, and even behind the scenes with administrative tasks.

WHAT DOES SERVING OUTSIDE THE CHURCH MEAN? >

Serving outside the church means volunteering in any capacity with our ministry partners (GUM, ADA, BSM, etc.), as well as other ministries and organizations which have the goal of bringing people to a life-changing interaction with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST? >

The total project cost is $4.5 million. Our existing savings allowed us to contribute the first $1 million without fundraising. Our goal is to raise an additional $1.5 million from the congregation over and above regular giving. The remainder of the funds will come from grants, loans, and, if necessary, the sale of the property at 426 Winnie Street.

IS OUR CAMPAIGN GIVING IN ADDITION TO OR IN PLACE OF OUR REGULAR GIVING? >

Your campaign giving is above and beyond your regular giving. Your regular giving is necessary to support our annual operating budget and expenses.

WHAT ARE YOU ASKING ME TO DO? >

At Coastal, Everybody Pedals. We want everyone who calls Coastal their church home to: 1) Invest in the vision through a one-time offering and a 36-month financial commitment; 2) Participate in a Community Group; and 3) Serve in an ongoing volunteer role within the church or in partnership with a local ministry.

WHAT IF I DON'T HAVE A LOT TO GIVE? >

It's not the size of the gift, it's the size of the sacrifice. In fact, sometimes those with little bring the greatest gifts of all because their gift represents a very deep, personal sacrifice. God sees what you bring far more clearly than anyone else does.

WILL THERE BE ANY ADDITIONAL FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES FOR THE NEW BUILDING ASIDE FROM THE GIVING FROM THE CONGREGATION? >

Yes, as needed. Other income sources might include grants from external foundations, selling the Winnie property, and loans.

WILL WE OFFER SUNDAY SCHOOL OR REQUIRE SUNDAY ATTIRE WHEN WE MEET IN OUR OWN BUILDING? >

A permanent building does not change who we are. Our DNA will still be Community Groups and flip-flops.

WHEN WILL WE MOVE IN? >

Our contractor estimates it will take about 13 months once we break ground to complete the project, though it could take longer. Our current move-in estimates are Summer 2020.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF WE FALL SHORT OF OUR TARGET? >

We will celebrate and praise God for His abundant faithfulness! Then we will keep praying and trust God to provide for the journey on which He has called us. We will also investigate external income sources, including loans. If necessary, we could scale back some of our design plans inside the building or extend our fundraising timeline.

IS THERE A BETTER WAY TO SPEND THE MONEY? >

There are certainly other ways to spend the money, but we feel God is leading us to fund and renovate the building at 1309 23rd Street to create a center for worship and outreach to Galveston, the County and beyond.

Giving Guide.png

Giving Guide

Each of us can give more than we think is possible by giving over a three-year period.

Let's say you decide to give $5,000 towards BEYOND. That breaks down to:

$1,667 per year
$139 per month
$32 per week

Think about this ...

  • The average American spends $766 a year on coffee.

  • The average American family spends $200 a month eating out.

  • The average American family spends $235 a month on entertainment.

Ways to Give

Appreciated Asset Giving is giving by transferring assets such as stocks, bonds, artwork, donor-advised funds, or real estate to the church.

Redirected Expenditures occur when funds can be directed toward God's work as other financial obligations are fulfilled during the campaign. These might include tuition payments, car loans, etc.

Personal Property Gifts are the giving of a home, vacation home, commercial property, or land.

Bequests are giving by naming Coastal Community Church as a beneficiary in a will.

Tax rules are complex, so please be sure to consult your tax professional for specific advice with regard to your situation.
